It was recently declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Different architectural styles are seen in Chichen Itza.
The most famous landmarks are the Temple of Kukulkan (“The Castle”), the Ballgame Court, the Platform of the Skulls, the Temple of the Jaguar, the Observatory, the One Thousand Columns, and the Sacred Cenote.
Then forget about the heat and jump into the refreshing waters of Cenote Ik Kil. This sinkhole is near the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, on the highway to Valladolid.
The Cenote is open to the sky, with the water level about 26 meters (85 ft) below ground level. There is a carved stairway down to a swimming platform. The Cenote is about 60 meters (200 ft) in diameter and about 40 meters (130 ft) deep.
Cenotes are sacred to the Maya People, and the Maya Civilization used this Cenote for both relaxation and ritual services.
After refreshing in the Cenote, we will have a buffet lunch and then continue to Valladolid to get a glimpse of contemporary Mexico. Valladolid is undoubtedly one of Mexico’s most beautiful colonial cities due to its temples’ majesty and its old neighborhoods’ ancestry.
